Fuji is elusive and can’t be seen on foggy or days or where visibility is low. Maximise your chances of enjoying Mt. Fuji by staying overnight at these Hakone ryokan with Mt. Fuji views.

1. Hotel Green Plaza Hakone

Hotel Green Plaza Hakone is probably the most famous hotel in Hakone where guests can enjoy Mt. Fuji views.

The best places to see Mt. Fuji from this hotel are from the comfort of your own room (just be sure to book a room that specifies a Mt. Fuji view) and the outdoor onsen that’s on the ground floor of the hotel. Luckily for us ladies, the view is best from the women’s onsen 🙂

Both Japanese-style (sleeping on futons and tatami flooring) and Western-style (raised beds) have Mt. Fuji views at this hotel. Other amenities here include buffet-style breakfast and dinner, a spa, a gift shop, and even a wedding chapel.

Hotel Green Plaza Hakone is located in the Sengokuhara area of Hakone.

2. Ryuguden

Ryuguden is a beautiful traditional Japanese ryokan in Hakone that has Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi views. Its location near the Hakone ropeway station makes it a perfect overnight stay location partway through the Hakone Loop.

Rooms here are Japanese-style with tatami areas, and all of them come with Mt. Fuji and lake views! The cherry on top is staying in a rooom which has a private hot spring onsen attached. Ryuguden also has public indoor and outdoor onsen, and the outdoor onsen (both men’s and women’s) has a Mt. Fuji view.

Also available on-site is a sauna, restaurant and souvenir shop.

3. Yoshimatsu

Yoshimatsu (or Takumino Yado Yoshimatsu) is a top-rated Hakone ryokan with a view of Mount Fuji framed by its Japanese garden’s seasonal foliage. Although Mount Fuji views are only available from the ryokan’s grounds, the experience is offset by spacious stone open-air onsen that look out over the ryokan’s private gardens.

Guests love the ryokan’s central koi pond, a focus point of the Japanese garden, its traditional touches, amazing kaiseki meals, and overall top-notch hospitality.

Four indoor and outdoor public onsen are available for guests, with assigned genders switching partway through the day so everyone can enjoy the unique features of each. One indoor hot spring bath can also be used privately on a first-come, first-served basis.

4. Hakone Yuyado Zen

Hakone Yuyado Zen is an adult-oriented, refined onsen ryokan that offers rooms with Mount Fuji views in Hakone. Both Western-style and Japanese-style twin rooms here have Mt. Fuji view options. Many of them also come with a semi-open-air onsen too!

With only 11 rooms, this Hakone ryokan offers a personalised experience. Kaiseki meals are served in private dining rooms, and shuttle bus services are available on-call to various bus stops around the Sengokuhara area of Hakone, and the ‘Ubako’ Hakone ropeway station.

5. The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko

The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko is a Mount Fuji-view Hakone hotel that’s part of Japan’s famous Prince Hotel conglomerate. It’s unique circular architecture and spacious gardens are easily spotted on the shores of Lake Ashinoko.

The location of this hotel is super special, right on the edge of Lake Ashi and close to the Hakone ropeway as well. Mt. Fuji views can be enjoyed from the beautiful hotel grounds, as well as some room balconies.

Other amenities available here include a spa, multiple restaurants on-site, and spacious public onsen facilities. Overall, it’s the lake + Fuji view that does it for me!

6. Hakone Ashinoko Bikeikan (箱根芦ノ湖 美景館)

Hakone Ashinoko Bikeikan is a small, boutique ryokan located in the forested area above Lake Ashi near the Hakone ropeway. It’s situated at a higher elevation than a lot of Hakone ryokans, making it a great place to enjoy unimpeded Mount Fuji views.

With only four guest rooms at the property, each one accommodating up to 7 or 8 people, it’s a great place to spend a relaxing time with multiple families or a larger friend group. Each room also has incredible views overlooking the forested hills of Hakone, Lake Ashi, and of course, Mt. Fuji herself.

Amenities available on-site include a kitchenette, washer and dryer, board game rentals, and of course, a public indoor onsen. Be sure to book meals with your stay, because there are no restaurants or convenience stores within walking distance.

8. Odakyu Hotel de Yama

Odakyo Hotel de Yama is a classic lakeshide Hakone hotel that’s famous for its spacious azalea gardens and Mt. Fuji views. Rather than feeling like a traditional ryokan, staying here feels like staying in a retro Japanese hotel, with Western-style architecture and room designs. The hotel first opened its doors in 1948, and was renovated in 2015, but retains its classic atmosphere.

Located hear the Hakone shrine on the south-east side of Lake Ashi, it’s a great place to stay if you want to spend time in nature or be first in line to take photos with Hakone’s iconic floating torii gate.

Amenities include indoor and outdoor public onsen, spacious outdoor areas including gardens and terraces, and two restaurant, a lounge bar, souvenir store, and spa on-site. A panoramic observatory at the hotel also offers 180-degree views of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji.

9. Hakone Hotel

Hakone Hotel, located on the south side of Lake Ashi, is a modern lakeside hotel in Hakone that puts you steps away from the Hakone scenic boat ride (or the pirate ship) pier.

Despite its bland name, the Hakone Hotel has a number of claims to fame, including a spacious garden with views of the tippity-top of Mt. Fuji, indoor and outdoor public baths, a spa, souvenir shop, three restaurants, a bar, and even a private hotel jetty… in case you arrive by boat I guess?

Most rooms here come with front-and-center lake views, which of course includes Mt. Fuji in the distance, behind the Hakone mountain range.

10. Hananoyado Fukuya

Lastly, to round of this post of Hakone ryokan with Mt. Fuji views is Hananoyado Fukuya. This small onsen ryokan in Hakone retains its traditional Japanese roots, offering Japanese-style rooms, kaiseki meals using seasonal Hakone ingredients, and yukata rentals.

Five out of the six rooms here have a private, open-air onsen on their terrace, while also having views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi through the trees. They have a public bath available for guests on-site, which after their dinner service, can be reserved for private use by guests.

This Hakone ryokan a good option if you want to experience small-scale, family-run ryokan hospitality and a more traditional, old-style atmosphere. Complete with a Mount Fuji view.
