Best Kawaguchiko Hotels with Mt. Fuji Views

Are you dreaming of waking up with a picture-perfect view of Japan’s most iconic mountain? Stay at one of these best hotels with Mt. Fuji views in Kawaguchiko, at the foot of Mt. Fuji, for an unforgettable experience. Whenever I visit Kawaguchiko, waking up to a view of Mt. Fuji never gets old, no matter how many times I’ve seen it.

Kawaguchiko is considered one of the best places to see Mt. Fuji up close. Set on the shores of Lake Kawaguchi, the town offers some of Japan’s most famous Fuji views, with the mountain reflected in the lake and framed by cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, or snow depending on the season. Kawaguchiko is also easily accessible from Tokyo and home to a wide range of hotels and traditional Japanese ryokans designed to make the most of Mt. Fuji views. Many rooms, restaurants, and open-air baths are looking directly at Mt. Fuji.

From luxury resorts with private open-air baths, to glamping hubs to boutique hotels, these top hotels with Mt. Fuji views offer both spectacular views of Mt. Fuji, and wonderful overnight experiences that you’ll never forget.

Whether you’re seeking Mt. Fuji for the first time or the hundredth time, these best Fuji-view hotels in Kawaguchiko will make your overnight accommodation worth every penny.

Personally, I think staying overnight in Kawaguchiko is one of the best ways to experience Mt. Fuji, as you get to enjoy the mountain in the quieter early morning and evening when many day-trippers have already left.

Another location with Mt. Fuji views (although a little further away) is Hakone. If you’re visiting Hakone during your Japan itinerary too, be sure to check out my other posts:

1. Hoshinoya Fuji

The first on my list of best hotels with Mt. Fuji views is the exclusive Hoshinoya Fuji. The Hoshinoya chain is known in Japan for providing some of the most luxurious, top-tier accommodation options around the country. Each one has a Japanese cultural theme and element to it, and the Hoshinoya Fuji location, true to its natural surroundings, is glamping (but elevated tenfold).

I was lucky enough to stay here for my birthday as a treat from my better half!! The rooms here are container-style, all with unimpeded views facing Mt. Fuji. The whole length of our room, and our room’s outdoor terrace (which was complete with a fireplace) framed Mt. Fuji spectacularly. My stay here was incredible, and I could have spent hours on the terrace simply watching the scenery change around Mt. Fuji.

My favorite part of staying at this amazing hotel with Mt. Fuji views is having breakfast on the terrace, picnic-style, of course with Mt. Fuji front and center.

2. Lakeland Hotel Mizunosato

Second up is a more budget-friendly Kawaguchiko accommodation with Mt. Fuji views. I treated my parents to a stay here at Lakeland Hotel Mizunosato, a wonderful ryokan located at the edge of Kawaguchiko. Of course it has beautiful views of Mt. Fuji too.

Half of the rooms here have lake views, while the other have has Mt. Fuji views. The ryokan also offers a rooftop terrace with unimpeded views of both the lake and Mt. Fuji (the photo below is from the terrace).

The views of Mt. Fuji don’t just stop at the rooms, they women’s outdoor onsen has an outdoor hottub with Mt. Fuji views. If you go up a flight of stairs to the rooftop, there’s also a small rooftop onsen which has great views of both the lake and the mountain.

I would definitely stay here again and recommend Lakeland Hotel Mizunosato to travellers to Kawaguchiko, not only because it offers vegetarian-friendly kaiseki meal options, but also because it’s a wonderful traditional Japanese ryokan, budget-friendly, and of course has incredible Mt. Fuji views.

3. Gora Kadan Fuji

Now we’re back to the ultra-luxury end of the spectrum for Fuji-view hotels in Kawaguchiko. Gora Kadan is one of the most famous ryokan-style luxury brands in Japan, best known for its three-Michelin-key property in Hakone. Gora Kadan Fuji brings that same level of refinement to a setting at the doorstep of Mt. Fuji.

This luxury ryokan is located in a quiet, forested area in Kawaguchiko away from the busy lakeshore. The entire architecture of the building, including its common spaces, rooms, and gardens, is designed to frame Mt. Fuji as the focal point. The rooms are spacious with modern Japanese interiors, and many feature private onsen and private Japanese gardens… one even has a private heated pool!

The Gora Kadan Fuji experience is less about sightseeing and more about immersing yourself in the overnight stay experience, from incredible kaiseki dining to uninterrupted Mt. Fuji views.

This ryokan is high on my bucket list of places to stay in Kawaguchiko, and this would be my recommendation if your budget stretches to one luxury splurge during your Japan trip.

4. Fufu Kawaguchiko

Fufu Kawaguchiko is another standout high-end ryokan with Mt. Fuji views near Kawaguchiko. The Fufu brand is known across Japan for its all-suite properties, making your stay feel like an ultra luxury home away from home. This Fufu location has earned two Michelin keys, placing it among one of the best hotels in Japan and the world.

What makes Fufu Kawaguchiko special is how every suite is designed to face Mt. Fuji, so guests can experience the view to the fullest. Floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious terraces and even private open-air onsen with Mt. Fuji views allows guests to soak in privacy while gazing out at Mt. Fuji. The suite designs include natural textures and wood, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

For a bucket list-worthy Mt. Fuji-view hotel experience, you can’t go wrong with Fufu Kawaguchiko. If I were celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary, this is one of the properties I’d book first.

5. Kaneyamaen

Kaneyamaen is a Fuji-view onsen ryokan that has been on my radar for a long time. This beautiful traditional ryokan in the Kawaguchiko area combines classic Japanese design with impressive Mt. Fuji views.

Two elements of this ryokan make it super special, the first is that many of the more luxury rooms come with private open-air onsen on their terraces, so you can soak while looking directly at Mt. Fuji.

The standout feature is their rooftop open-air onsen on the 10th floor, which offers unobstructed Mt. Fuji views, and is one of the most iconic hot springs spots in Kawaguchiko.

Other omotenashi hospitality features include a tea room, bar and lounge, and evening taiko performances.

6. Oike Hotel

Oike hotel is a trendy and mid-range hotel for visitors to Kawaguchiko looking for Mt. Fuji-view hotels with a traditional ryokan feel.

The important thing to know is that not every room has the same view, so make sure to book one of the Mt. Fuji-view rooms. Some of the higher-end rooms come with private onsen facing Mt. Fuji, while the more standard Fuji-side Japanese rooms allow you to enjoy the mountain from the window.

One of the biggest highlights of this hotel is it’s 5th-floor Mt. Fuji-view public bath where you can soak while looking out toward Mt. Fuji. It also has as garden open-air baths and private open-air baths that can be rented for private use. This makes it a great option if you want the comfort of a traditional onsen ryokan without going all the way into the ultra-luxury category.

7. Fuji View Hotel

Fuji View Hotel is one of the classic Kawaguchiko hotels with Mt. Fuji views, and it’s especially good if you want a spacious, resort-style stay rather than a small ryokan. As the name suggests, this hotel is all about the view, with rooms facing Mt. Fuji and a peaceful location surrounded by a large seasonal garden.

This hotel feels a little more old-school and established compared to some of the newer luxury ryokan in Kawaguchiko, but that’s also part of its charm. The property has a huge garden, and depending on the season, you can enjoy cherry blossoms, autumn colors, greenery, or snow-covered scenery with Mt. Fuji in the background.

Fuji View Hotel has both Western-style rooms and Japanese-style rooms, including Mt. Fuji-side options, family rooms, suites, and rooms with tatami areas. As with many Kawaguchiko Mt. Fuji view hotels, make sure you specifically book a Mt. Fuji-view room.

8. La Vista Fujikawaguchiko

La Vista Fujikawaguchiko is a unique Kawaguchiko Mt. Fuji view hotel because it doesn’t have the usual Japanese design. Instead, the hotel is inspired by the South of France, with French-style interiors, warm colors, and a slightly European-resort atmosphere, all while looking out toward Lake Kawaguchi and Mt. Fuji.

The hotel is located on higher ground, which gives it an amazing vantage point over the lake and Mt. Fuji. The rooms are designed around the view, with Fuji and lake-facing scenery, private onsen baths, and a more romantic resort feel than many of the traditional ryokan in the area.

Both indoor and outdoor large public onsen baths that are fed by hot spring waters are available on-site. Four private onsen rooms can also be separately booked, made of stone, brick, cedar wood, or a jacuzzi-style tile onsen with “microbubbles”.

This cute hotel would be a great option for couples and honeymooners to spend time together in their in-room heart-shaped onsen tub, or reserve one of the private onsen!

9. Bessho Sasa

Bessho Sasa is a high-end Kawaguchiko ryokan that’s actually located within the Kaneyamaen hotel mentioned above. Bessho Sasa is the VIP section though, where staff cater specifically to the guests staying in their suites located on the 4th and 5th floors of the building.

All rooms at this property have private onsen and amazing Mt. Fuji views. Some have private open-air onsen that are located in a Japanese garden, while others have private onsen that overlook Mt. Fuji as well. The incredibly spacious rooms all come with balconies or patios that are surrounded by nature, making it the perfect, relaxing escape to admire Mt. Fuji. Both Western and Japanese-style rooms are available.

Bessho Sasa Hotel also offers a number of Japanese cultural activities for their guests, and provides access to additional facilities through the attached Hotel Kaneyamaen too. It’s a perfect all-in-one Kawaguchiko hotel with Mt. Fuji views, and the kind of stay that will become one of your most memorable experiences in Japan.

10. Retreat Camp Mahoroba

If you’re looking for a unique Fuji-view stay in Kawaguchiko, consider glamping! Viewing Mt. Fuji from nature rather than from a traditional hotel room has become a popular concept, giving rise to a number of different glamping opportunities near Mt. Fuji.

Retreat Camp Mahoroba is surrounded by forest, with many accommodation types positioned to look directly at Mt. Fuji in the distance. A number of room options exist, ranging from canopy tents to tiny homes, to cabins to glamping domes. Some overnight plans include breakfast and dinner too.

For the most glamorous experience, try the luxury glamping domes: they are fully set-up, permanent domes that come with real beds, heating and air conditioning, private decks, and BBQ equipment, making this a comfortable option even for travellers who don’t normally camp.

It’s the perfect place to wake up to Mt. Fuji while enjoying a slower, more nature-filled stay that feels completely different from a traditional hotel.

If seeing Mt. Fuji is high on your Japan bucket list, staying overnight in Kawaguchiko is 100% worth it. Waking up to a clear view of the mountain, enjoying breakfast with Fuji in the background, or relaxing in a private onsen as the scenery changes throughout the day is an experience that’s difficult to match elsewhere in Japan. I hope you find the perfect hotel and create memories that stay with you long after your trip!
