Sapporo is the laid-back capital city of Japan’s northernmost island, Hokkaido. Known for its natural beauty, volcanic activity, and colder temperatures, Sapporo and Hokkaido are the perfect place to spend time in onsen, or Japanese hot springs in Japan. There are plenty of Sapporo hotels and ryokan with onsen, so you can soak to your content while staying close to all the top things to do in Sapporo.
When I visit Sapporo, staying in a hotel with onsen is high on my priority list, especially in the winter. Who doesn’t want to relax in a steaming hot bath after a day of exploring chilly Sapporo? The best part is, you don’t need to leave the city to experience natural hot spring onsen!

15. La'gent Stay Sapporo Odori Hokkaido
I potentially saved the best for last on this list of Sapporo hotels with onsen, because this one has two super unique onsen.
The natural hot spring onsen at La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori Hokkaido are located on the third floor and fifth floor. The third floor onsen looks like a super traditional Japanese onsen, the kind you’ll find in onsen ryokan that have existed for hundreds of years. With exposed wooden beams, high ceilings, and rustic wooden panelling, you’ll be transported to another time when soaking in this onsen.
The fifth floor onsen features a massive tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog) on the wall of the onsen. Why? It draws inspiration from Sapporo’s famous Tanukikoji shopping street. With its piercing blue eyes, what is usually a playful creature in Japanese mythology might look a bit mischievous here.
Other hotel amenities include free post-onsen popsicles, a lounge, gallery, buffet breakfast, cocktail bar, and laundry facilities. And there’s a giraffe statue in the lobby too.
Find the latest rates and availability for this Sapporo onsen hotel here.
La-gent Stay has another location in Shin Sapporo, also with a spacious hotel onsen. No tanuki statues here though unfortunately.
